What is Greatness?

Defining greatness can be a challenging task, but at its core, greatness is about making a positive impact in the world and leaving a lasting legacy

Greatness is not just about achieving personal success but rather about using our talents and abilities to make a difference in the lives of those around us.

Jesus is the ultimate example of greatness. He left behind a legacy that has lasted for over two thousand years, and people are still being transformed by His message of love and forgiveness.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 22:37-39 that the greatest commandment is to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind and to love our neighbor as ourselves.

When we practice this commandment, we bring greatness into our lives and the lives of those around us.

Does your life follow this model?  It’s an important question to asks, because many times we’re looking at quantity or even comparison. What you see as minimal may be the greatness God is trying to pull out of you.

    What Greatness Looks Like

The Bible is filled with stories of ordinary men and women who were chosen by God for greatness. In Genesis 12, we read about how God called Abram to leave his country, his people, and his father's household to go to the land God would show him.

God promised to bless Abram and make him into a great nation, and through him, all the nations of the earth would be blessed. Abram, who later became Abraham, followed in obedience to God's call and became the father of many nations.

In Exodus, we see how God chose Moses to lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt. Despite Moses' lack of confidence in his ability to speak, God assured him that He would be with him and enable him to do what he was called to do.

Through Moses, God demonstrated His power and faithfulness, performing miracles and leading His people to the Promised Land.

Where in the Bible Does It Say God Has Chosen You for Greatness?

God has spoken time and time again in the Bible about how He has chosen His people for greatness. In Genesis 12:2, God tells Abraham, "I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing." This promise was not just for Abraham but for his descendants as well.

In Deuteronomy 28:13, God promises His people that He will make them the head and not the tail, making them above only and not beneath. King Solomon, who was known for his wisdom, writes in Proverbs 4:7, "Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore, get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding." This is a clear indication that greatness is within our grasp if we seek after God's wisdom and understanding in our lives.

Perhaps the most famous scriptural reference to greatness is found in Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." This promise is not limited to just a few people but rather is extended to all of God's children.

This verse reminds us that God has a specific plan and purpose for our lives, and it is good. We are destined for greatness, not because of anything we have done, but because of who God is and His love for us.

Ways to Embrace Your Greatness in God

As a child of God, you are chosen and loved by Him. You have been given unique gifts and talents to use for His glory.

Even in your struggles and challenges, God is at work in you, shaping and molding you into the person He has called you to be. Remember the words of Philippians 1:6, "Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."

So how can you embrace your greatness? Here are a few practical tips:

    1. Pray
Prayer is a powerful way to connect with God and embrace your greatness in Him. Prayer allows us to express our gratitude, ask for guidance, and open our hearts to receive His love and grace. When we pray, we are acknowledging that He is the source of all good things in our lives, and that He has the power to help us become our best selves.

    2. Read Scripture
Reading scripture is another great way to embrace your greatness in God. Scripture contains the wisdom of God, which can provide us with insight and understanding about who we are as individuals created in His image. By reading scripture regularly, we can gain a better understanding of how God sees us and how He desires for us to live out our lives each day.

    3. Spend Time With Other Believers
Spending time with other believers is an important part of embracing your greatness in God. When we surround ourselves with other believers who share similar values and beliefs, it helps to strengthen our faith and remind us that we are not alone on this journey of faith. We can find strength in community as we strive to become more like Jesus each day.

    4. Serve Others
Serving others is another great way to embrace your greatness in God. Serving others reminds us that we are part of something bigger than ourselves—the body of Christ—and that by serving others, we are serving Him as well. As we serve others, it helps us to see the beauty and potential within them, which can often be difficult for us to recognize within ourselves when life gets busy or stressful.

    5. Listen For His Voice
Listening for His voice is an important way to embrace your greatness in God. Listening for His voice means taking time each day to quiet our minds so that we can hear what He has to say about who we are and what He wants for our lives. It also means being open-minded enough to accept what He tells us even if it doesn’t make sense at first—His plans may be different from ours but they will always be greater!

Greatness is not something we achieve on our own. It is a result of allowing God to work in us and through us for His glory.

Embrace your calling as a child of God and live a life that honors and blesses others.

Remember, you are chosen by God for greatness!

Here’s a prayer over our journey to manifestation…

Father, at creation you had an ultimate plan for all that we know and see today.  There are a lot of things that we do not understand, and in many cases we have wandered without direction hoping to arrive at our place.  Lord we want to operate in our place of greatness, that place where we’re not spinning our efforts on what doesn’t matter.  We want to function at our capacity to change lives and impact this world.  Lord if our mission seems small in our own eyes, help us to see the magnitude that it is in yours.  Father help us to be obedient and clear the airways so we can only hear from You.  Lord, we believe that you placed something special in each of us.  Help us to tap in and carry out your will.  God we thank you for entrusting and equipping us.  Thank you for choosing to work through us.  Let your will be done in our lives, in Jesus name, Amen…
