What is Spiritual Health?

A lot of people have no problem figuring out physical health but spiritual health is a whole different topic.

How will I know if I'm healthy? What do I do to get healthy? How much should I put in? When will I know it's enough?

These are just some of the questions that people might asks themselves. All of which could cause you to overthink and complicate the beautiful journey to being spiritually healthy.

The thing to keep in mind is that just like physical health, it takes persistence, breaking down, building good habits, and waiting for the results.

What Are Some Spiritual Wellness Goals?

Not many people set out to create goals for spiritual health. Those that do may join a New Year's challenge or make a plan to read the Bible in a year.

Either of these could be beneficial, but spiritual wellness is personal. Before you go to pick out your reading material or plan, pray and ask God for guidance.

Once you get a response, starting determining where you want to end up.

You can also approach it from the perspective of living a life that is full of purpose. You have one here on Earth, so live it out fully.

One way to apply this may be determining how to help others. This will bring the most joy to your heart and ease any worry about what's next in heaven.

The mindset approach is another winner. An increased positive mental attitude (PMA) goes a long way.

Faith requires a lot of introspection, but there are also good times for celebration! Let go of cynicism or pessimistic views, as they steal light from this world around us all.

Instead embrace hope and happiness with every breath God gives you - whether spiritual or physical!

Spiritual maturity is something that we all should go after. Diligent prayer can help.

Remember, growth happens one step at a time; don't be hard on yourself if you feel like things aren't progressing at the pace you desired. Your efforts will bring a return.

5 Ways to Have Good Spiritual Health

Spiritual health has to do with the spiritual aspects of our lives that need nurturing and care.

These might include prayer life, spiritual disciplines such as fasting or solitude, and our relationships with Jesus Christ and others in our spiritual family.

The goal is to become more loving and joyful everyday.

Here are five strategies for increasing spiritual health:

  1. Just like any other goal, you want to start with the end in mind. If for example your plan is to consistently read, determine what that looks like. Next, make a plan to build up to your final goal.

  2. Measure your progress. Don't just say you're going pray daily. Do an evening or weekly check to make sure you actually did it.

  3. Analyze failures. If you start and then stop, don't allow that behavior to continue. Determine what is preventing you from succeeding and combat that. If it's time, see what you can remove from your schedule.

  4. Get an accountability partner. Remember that iron sharpens iron. Prayerfully connect with a friend, co-worker, or family member who is willing to take the journey with you and be held accountable as well.

  5. Seek God. Don't just pray one time and never go back in for a check-up. Acknowledge God in your quest to spiritual health so that He can guide you through His Spirit.

Spiritual Health Activities

I'm all about making something enjoyable. It's no different with spiritual health. You have to discover what works best with how you're wired.

If you want to increase your reading, plan to add some books to your routine. They'll not only add a some variety but also help you to dig deeper into topics of interest or need.

Prayer is the non-optional portion of spiritual health. You're not going to get far without your trainer, so it's best to make that your first goal.

If you talk to God a lot already, take a moment and reflect on how that communication is changing your life. Are you seeing transformation? Are you guided more?

If not, try adding scriptures related to your specific needs or requests.

Bible Studies are also a good activity for spiritual health. They cause you to dig deeper for an understanding of the scripture along with determining how you will apply it in your everyday life.

When you take the first step towards spiritual health, it can be both exciting and daunting. People often wonder where to start or how to go about changing their life for the better.

The best thing you can do is focus on one small change at a time - whether that’s reading your Bible daily, spending more time in prayer, or focusing on gratitude.

Remember that anything worth having takes effort! Set goals for yourself each day (no matter how simple) and give them everything you have. You will find success!
