Living a Life of Truth: God’s Truth vs Personal Opinion

In a world where individualism is encouraged and diverse opinions are celebrated, it can be challenging to know what is God’s truth and what is not.

Oftentimes, personal opinions are disguised as the truth, and we end up believing them without examining the evidence.

However, as Christians, we are called to live a life of truth through God's truth.

Living by the truth sets us free from spiritual bondage and allows us to have peace and a clear mindset.

What Exactly is God’s Truth?

Simply put, God's truth is the ultimate reality that exists outside of our opinions and perceptions.

It is absolute, authoritative, and unchanging. In other words, it is the way things are, whether we believe it or not.

As Christians, we believe that God's truth is revealed through His Word, the Bible. When we read and study the Bible, we gain knowledge of God's character, His will, and His plan for our lives.

As John 14:6 states, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Jesus himself is the embodiment of God's truth, and He is the means by which we can come to know God intimately.

What Does the Bible Say About the Truth of God?

Throughout the Bible, we see numerous verses that emphasize the importance of truth. For example, Psalm 25:5 declares, "Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you, I wait all the day long." David believed God and therefore was seeking Him for guidance.

When we believe God as Truth, we will also seek His guidance in life.

God’s truth is priceless and we must hold on to it for it’s life guiding benefit. Proverbs 23:23 urges us to "Buy truth and do not sell it, get wisdom, instruction, and understanding."

Moreover, Jesus himself said in John 8:32, "And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." In other words, the truth of God is liberating and life-giving.

How is God’s Truth Revealed to Us?

God's truth is not something that can be fully grasped through our senses or our human reason.

Instead, it is only through the Holy Spirit that we can fully understand and experience God's truth. It is a divine gift bestowed upon us, enabling us to comprehend the mysteries of life and the universe.

God's truth is unveiled to us through various channels. The Holy Bible offers us a look at God’s faithful history, His character, His love towards us, and profound revelation. Moreover, the scriptures guide us towards righteousness and enlightenment.

Even as we look around at all that God has created, the beauty and complexity of the natural world bears witness to the existence of His higher power. Nature speaks day by day. We have to simply get quiet enough to observe and to hear.

God also speaks through the still small voice within us. We know Him as the Holy Spirit. We need the Holy Spirit to lead us into God’s truth and to understand.

1 Corinthians 2:14 states, "The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit."

It is essential that we ask for the Holy Spirit's guidance and illumination when we read and study the Bible.

As we seek Him with our whole hearts, God will reveal His truth to us.

Does the Bible Say All Truth is God’s Truth?

While God's truth encompasses all that is true, not all truth is God's truth. In other words, there can be true statements that are not in line with God's character and His will for our lives.

As Christians, we need to be discerning and test everything against the standard of God's Word.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 exhorts us to "Test everything; hold on to what is good." Colossians 2:8 warns us, "See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ."

By anchoring ourselves in God's truth, we are equipped to navigate the many competing voices in our world.

Living by God's truth is not always easy or popular, but it is the only way to have true freedom and peace.

When we ground ourselves in the reality of who God is and what He has done for us, we no longer have to be enslaved by the opinions of others or the lies of the enemy. Instead, we can confidently trust in the goodness and faithfulness of God, knowing that His truth endures forever.

As 2 Timothy 3:16 says, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

May we be those who diligently seek after God's truth and live it out in every area of our lives.
